Free agents cost cap space. There's no separate FAAB wallet in Capr. Your bid on a player becomes his contract salary, which means every claim is a roster decision and a budget decision at once.
In-season waivers
In season, waivers run as continuous FAAB-style bidding by default: any unrostered player can be claimed at any time by submitting a blind bid from your cap space. Claims sit for a 24-hour window by default (leagues can use 48) and process on the league's schedule. Noon ET is the default, and commissioners can set one or several processing days per week. Two other modes exist: instant FAAB, where each claim resolves the moment its own window ends rather than waiting for a processing day, and waiver priority, where the league's priority order decides claims and nobody bids at all.
In-season bids are always blind. You see that a player has pending claims, never what anyone offered. The highest bid wins and pays exactly what it bid: the winning number becomes the player's contract salary for the season. Ties are broken on waiver priority, not on who claimed first.
Offseason free agency
The offseason free agency phase is a bigger event, and leagues run it in one of two formats. The default is a slow auction that works like eBay: players are nominated, teams bid openly with proxy bids over days, and anti-snipe timers extend the clock on late bids.
The alternative is bid windows: one to four sealed rounds where every team submits blind offers and each round resolves at once. Bid windows are the one surface in Capr that resolves second-price. The top bid wins and pays the second-highest bid plus the minimum increment, capped at what the winner actually offered, so an unopposed bid settles at the league minimum rather than at the number you wrote.
Bid visibility is configurable in the offseason. By default all offseason auction bids are visible, which makes the market a spectator sport. In season, bids stay blind no matter what.
The signing clock
Winning a player in the offseason is not the same as signing him. The winning bid is his salary; you still choose the years and the structure, and you have 24 hours by default to do it. The clock warns you six hours out. Let it lapse and the deal settles at one year, or is voided outright if your roster is full. Your bid holds cap from the moment you win, so a lapsed clock never lets you spend the same money twice.
